How can O’Hara & Dean help?
O’Hara & Dean take the hassle out of the building process and make it an enjoyable experience. We will consult with you and by acting on your behalf as a third party advisor, we can ensure you get the right solution. We are here to answer those tricky questions about contractual negotiation and the building process that you really need to know.
How much will it cost?
Our service is free! We ask for a $1,000 bond which is fully refunded back to our client when a building agreement has been signed with the builder of their choice. We then invoice the builder directly for our time. Clients therefore receive the benefit of our in-depth knowledge of the building industry, whilst the builders themselves are able to leave the pre-build process to the professionals.
Do O’Hara & Dean have standard plans?
O’Hara & Dean have an extensive database of plans that provide section owners with solutions in choosing floor plans to suit their sites. We also work along-side architects and designers with the facility to draw up your own design concepts and produce an outstanding concept plan complete with 3D images.
Is it true that O’Hara & Dean are cheaper?
Yes. Here at O’Hara & Dean we recognise that every build has a budget – whether it be $100,000 or $3 million. Our main objective is to bring your build in on time and within budget. Once O’Hara & Dean get involved the builders understand our tendering process and they therefore “sharpen their pencil” for the most competitive pricing you will find.
How long does the building process take?
We can have you in your new home within six months or even quicker once your building consent is obtained. Once O’Hara & Dean have met with you and listened to your ideas and expectations regarding your new home or investment property, we will come up with a timeline of the steps required to achieve your goals. As a general rule, a build takes approximately 18-20 weeks from Council consent.
Is O’Hara & Dean a building company?
No. O’Hara & Dean are independent New Home Brokers. O’Hara & Dean was created after we had spoken with so many people who were confused about the building process. If you feel daunted at the prospect of trying to compare all the building companies offering different plans, specifications and contracts – come and see us!
Does my home come with a guarantee?
Yes. O’Hara & Dean choose to only work with builders who have Masterbuild or Certified Build accreditation, or are Licenced Building Practitioners. This guarantees a superbly built home with no hassles. We also always ensure good project management is in place for your peace of mind. During the building process your home is covered by your builders “all risk” insurance.

Can O’Hara & Dean help with finance?
Yes. As part of our network O’Hara & Dean work with a reputable mortgage broker who provides a variety of finance options.
Do O’Hara & Dean only build in Christchurch?
No. Although the majority of O’Hara & Dean projects are in Christchurch, we have many clients building in the Canterbury region and other South Island regions.
Can O’Hara & Dean help with sections?
Yes. If you have not already purchased a section or lifestyle block, O’Hara & Dean will use our database of land and subdivisions to present you with the current options and put you in touch with the right people.
Do O’Hara & Dean build on the hill?
Yes. If you have a hill section O’Hara & Dean would obtain quotations only from builders we know who specialise in hill builds.
